Rancoeur #1, 2020
Often working on large formats, often on square canvases that are not unlike models of contemporary images, the artist mixes symbols, forms and materials to compose the strange scenes of a contemporary theatre in which hybrid animals and mysterious figures are the protagonists.
In a converted space, aiming at disturbing the visitor's spatial landmarks, Serigne Ibrahima Dieye proposes a new series of paintings, works on paper and an immersive installation, as an extension of his reflections on the political and social landscape of our contemporary societies. In the manner of a visual fable, the artist depicts the story of a confrontation between characters wearing animal masks, whose thirst for power, selfishness and obscure motivations are reminiscent of a certain category of world rulers.
Serigne Ibrahima Dieye
Born in 1988 in Dakar, Senegal. Serigne Ibrahima Dieye lives and works in Grand Mbao, Senegal.
Trained at the Ecole Nationale des Arts de Dakar from which he graduated in 2013, Serigne Ibrahima Dieye develops a practice at the crossroads of drawing, painting and collage.
Often working on large formats, frequently on square canvases that are not without recalling models of contemporary images, the artist mixes symbols, forms and materials. Serigne Ibrahima Dieye thus composes the strange scenes of a contemporary theatre of which hybrid animals and mysterious figures are the protagonists. This is the beginning of the story of urban fables, both fantasy and drama, which borrow their subject matter from various cultures and draw their depth from the nebulae of history and current events.
In his works, Serigne Ibrahima Dieye unveils a poetic look at contemporary society and the ills that trouble it, without concessions and not without irony.

Galerie Cécile Fakhoury
Galerie Cécile Fakhoury opened its doors in Abidjan, Ivory Coast in September 2012. In May, 2018 the gallery inaugurated second space in Dakar, Senegal and a showroom in Paris in France.
The gallery aims at promoting contemporary art in Africa. It offers visibility to creativity and contemporary artistic diversity in Africa through its programming of solo shows and group exhibitions, participation in international art fairs and biennales, and through its collaboration with foreign galleries.
Strongly rooted in their respective identities and stories, the artists represented by the gallery distinguish themselves through the use of a language that abolishes barriers and rejects geographical stigmatisation. Observers of a world they live in, these artists take an enlightened and critical look at our society. The diversity of their aesthetic gestures, committed positions to grab the complexity of History, participates in the writing of a living memory and asks us to reconsider our own relation to the world.
