Book signing & Conversation The Africans

On the occasion of the Material Insanity exhibition, the Museum of Contemporary African Art Al Maaden (MACAAL) is organising a series of encounters with the artists featured.

For this first session, the guests, M’barek Bouhchichi (artist) and Juan Palao (Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech), will discuss the book The Africans – co-written by Bouhchichi, Omar Berrada, Stefania Pandolfo, Ali Essafi and Emmanuel Iduma – published by Kulte Éditions in the context of the Averroès Meetings and the exhibition Les mains noires, at the Kulte Gallery in 2016.

Based on a solo show by M’barek Bouhchichi in Rabat, this book features the contributions of an anthropologist, a filmmaker and a writer, all Africans, who are trying for the first time to face directly the wound of being black in Morocco today. Based on a questioning about segregation and inequalities, the aim is to keep alive the possibility of converting, through art and research, the stigmas of racism.
