rhizome

rhizome is a young Algiers-based contemporary art gallery. With its two main focuses as a commercial gallery and as an independent art organization, rhizome works on promoting emerging contemporary artists, with a special care for those from Algeria and its Diasporas.

The gallery offers tailored accompaniments for its collaborating artists, on matters that fit most their immediate and career needs. rhizome is representing currently artists: Adel Bentounsi, EL Meya and Bardi while developing its artists pool among which young talents and established artists will be brought together as a large community to share their various perspectives, closing a generational gap and fostering mutual learning.

Parallel to the gallery program, the gallery regularly collaborates with institutions to conduct significant off site projects such as the upcoming show of artist Lydia Ourahmane at Kunsthalle Basel and at contemporary art centre Triangle France - Astérides in Marseille.

Recently, and at the invitation of the Whitechapel Gallery, rhizome joined a consortium of 20 global art organizations from Bergamo to Buenos Aires, Kabul to Marfa, Mumbai to Istanbul presenting film, video and animation as part of the Artists’ Film International (AFI).
